Sonia Sotomayor is the nominee

Obama’s first Supreme Court nominee is Sonia Sotomayor. This pick says alot about Obama’s view of the role of the court “in normal people’s lives,” as he said in his announcement today. And the conclusion is that the blinders on Lady Justice placed on her statue in courts around the country will be removed if he has his way.
The New Republic–no conservative rag–has a scathing article about her personal and judicial tempermant called The Case Against Sotomayor.
And The New York Times quotes her in a semi-racist rant saying,
“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
This is as radical a nominee at the outset as Ruth Bader Ginsberg. And Sotomayor seems likely to follow an even more radical path of “jurisprudence.”
