Liberals in Canada to shift emissions tax to reduce income tax

June 21, 2008

From the Montreal Gazette:

“A Liberal government would tax carbon dioxide emissions at $10 a tonne in the first year and up to $40 a tonne within four years. It estimates that by the fourth year revenue would reach $15 billion. That money would be reimbursed to Canadians through corporate and personal tax cuts so that the carbon tax remains ‘revenue neutral.’”
