Israel rejects US pressure on Jerusalem project

Jerusalem is now disputed territory, according to the Obama administration, and the President is asserting his right to tell Israel what they can and cannot do there.

The Obama State Department called in Israel’s Ambassador in  Washington and told him that Israel should stop a building project in what is described as “disputed territory” in Jerusalem.  It amounts to mission creep by Obama who is favoring a tacit expansion of Palestinian rights over those of the sovereign state of Israel.

Since 1948–though disputed by Arab countries–Israel has existed as a nation with full national rights and acceptance in the international community.  Palestinians have asserted their right to hold all of Israel as it’s national homeland with the support of nearly every Arab country since that time as well.  Only Jordan and Egypt have established normal state relations with Israel.

The Obama administration is increasingly siding with the Arab states in this regard.  They are pushing hard to secure unearned rights for Palestinians and opposes the natural rights of Israelis.  The demand to stop construction on this site goes way over the line.  Prime Minister Netanyahu was right to state:

“We cannot accept the fact that Jews wouldn’t be entitled to live and buy anywhere in Jerusalem,” calling Israeli sovereignty over the entire city “indisputable. . . . I can only imagine what would happen if someone suggested Jews could not live in certain neighborhoods in New York, London, Paris or Rome. There would certainly be a major international outcry. “

Yet Obama intends to put Israel inside a box giving Palestinians equal footing as a non-state actor with our confirmed state ally, Israel.  Looking for peace in the region and some recognition for Palestine in the future may be a worthy goal.  But not at the expense of a sovereign country.

Israel rejects US call to halt Jerusalem project.
